Thai Orchids
In the North we call orchids Euang but there are many kinds of Euang. Now local orchids in the wild are very hard to find so some orchid lovers grow them in their house or garden. If you want to see these lovely flowers you can visit orchid farms in the Maerim area and at the Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden which has sent us the following pictures and information.
Padboke
Cirrhopetalum curtisii Hook.f.
The shape of the flower is like a blade, 2.5-3 cm. wide. Color of both sepals and petals are violet. Leaves are 2.5-3 cm. wide, and 12-15 cm length. Mostly found in the Southwest of Thailand. Bloom during September-November. Spread over India and Southeast Asia.
Sikulkon
Dienia ophrydis (Koen.)
The flowers are bouquets arranged in straight stands, 20-30 cm. high from top to bottom. Most are violet and have yellow on tops. Leaves 8-12 cm. wide, 15-0 cm. length. Found in tropical rain forests in every part of Thailand. Bloom during June-September. Spread over Southeast Asia.
Auang Khaosan
Liparisviridiflora (Blume) Lirdl.
The flowers are green bouquets. The shape of the stem is like a pencil, leaves 3-7 cm. wide, 12-17 cm. length. Each stem has two leaves. Found in every part of Thailand. Bloom during October-December. Spread over India, Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia.
