29th Dec - 10th Jan: RED CROSS AND WINTER FAIR

.gif29th Dec - 10th Jan: RED CROSS AND WINTER FAIR, Chiang Mai, at the back of the Sala Klang (Provincial Town Hall) eight or so klicks out on the Mae Rim road. Like the Songkran Festival, mainly for the young and strong at heart. If you enjoy crowds, noise, enormous quantities of goods you probably don't want to buy, and food you don't want to eat, this is definitely for you. If additionally you don't mind the thrill of meeting ingesters of stimulants - some of them legal - under floodlighting on cold winter evenings, you should be in heaven. On the other hand, gardeners who fancy picking up interesting plants at bargain prices might find it a good idea to get there as early as possible. Among the day-time features are stalls with displays by various government departments and the Red Cross Association, a 'sky-sea' aquarium, an amusement park, and many restaurants. In the evening popular singers give stage performances and there's a rather long-drawn-out Miss Chiang Mai Beauty Competition. (see: Children's Day)
