.gif
.gif .gif

.gifSankampaeng is a famous district to the east of Chiang Mai city, famous for its beautiful nature and especially well-known handicrafts; sa paper and umbrella making at Borsang village, jewellery & silverware factories and silk weaving factories. These things make Sankampaeng an interesting place for tourists.

.gifThe Sankampaeng Handicraft Fairs aim to promote the handicrafts of Sankampaeng with a different theme every Saturday until 21st February, 2004, 2 p.m. – 10 p.m. at Sankampaeng District Office and the road from the office to San-kangpla village.

.gifThe activities include sale of handicrafts (silk, ceramics, sa paper, umbrella, cotton, woodcarving and silverware), demonstrations and competitions.

.gifApart from these, one of the most attractive activities is ‘Weaving Sankampaeng Dreams’, a play written and arranged for this project. It is being performed on the main stage at the back of the Shinawatra Thai Silk Showroom, with well-known actors and actresses guest-performing in the major roles. The play progressively combines features of historic Sankampaeng, presenting them through the dramatisation of a love story of a sa paper-maker named Nahnsa, and a beautiful girl called Duangkaeow, who lived many years back, but whose romance has been preserved in sa-paper paintings.

.gifThe drama is said to have attracted a great deal of interest from both foreign visitors and local villagers, and its last episodes will take place on the Saturdays of the 31st Jan, and the 7th, 14th and 21st of February at 19.00, admission free.
