New Dimension Koto and Biwa Duo Concert

.gifNakai Tomoya (25-string koto, 13-string koto)

.gifBorn in Tsu City, Nakai studied the 25-string koto under Keiko Nosaka and learnt composition under Aki Mori. He graduated from the Traditional Japanese Music Course at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2001 and has gone on to win numerous awards. In 2005, he collaborated with violinist Tibor Kovac of the Vienna Philharmonic to perform a piece that Nakai had composed, called "Sakuragawa". In 2006, he released his first album, "Hana wa kokoro" and in 2007 gave multiple performances in Finland and in Central America. The concerts, which were sponsored by the Japan Foundation, were very well received.

.gifTomoka began her studies of the Kinko Style Shakuhachi and Satsuma Biwa at the age of 10 and later studied Shakuhachi under the tutorage of living national treasures, Goro Yamaguchi and Ryumei Matsuyama.

.gifA graduate of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, School of Music, Department of Japanese Music, majoring in Shakuhachi, she was a winner at the 9th Annual Nagatani Kengyo National Competition of Japanese Music (Biwa). She has actively participated in a variety of fields, giving overseas and school- campus performances, and has appeared on TV and in the press.
