Thapae Road is famous with tourists for being an area full of nice arts and handicrafts. There are several art galleries along both sides of the road which exhibit and sell different kinds of art; and if you appreciate or love to collect unique masterpieces, the newest gallery that you cannot miss on Thapae road is Sun Gallery.

Sun is the name of the gallery's owner. He was born in Southern Thailand where the people's ways of life and culture are different from any other parts of Thailand. Since he moved to the North to get his college degree from Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna, he realized that Chiang Mai is a good place to work as an artist, so he decided to start his career as an artist in Chiang Mai. After graduating, he gathered his experiences as an independent artist in the Mae Sa area. Starting from producing many kinds of art pieces for several galleries and interior decorating for many places, four months ago he opened his own Sun Gallery. His main reason for opening the gallery is to serve customers with his own style of art which cannot be outmoded. Another reason is to give a chance to young artists such as art students to exhibit their works. Normally the rent for space in an art gallery in town costs too much for these new faces so Sun Gallery gives them an opportunity to display their works, and also an opportunity for visitors to appreciate and purchase selected works of this young generation at affordable prices. All paintings, sculptures, wood cuts, sujet d'arts, souvenirs, postcards, and more are displayed in the two-storey gallery. From your first step in the gallery, its unique design will make you feel different from walking in other art galleries. The design of Sun Gallery is inspired by Indian and Nepalese styles in addition to the Muslim cultural heritage which is characteristic of southern Thailand, Sun's home region.
