LYNCHEE FAIR

.gif
.gif .gif

.gifChiang Rai, Thailand’s northernmost province, is known for the high quality of the lynchees that grow in its orchards, and this annual fair at the Provincial Stadium celebrates the harvest of the fruit. This big agricultural fair is held on the main fairground of the city to display the annual harvest. This fair also features various agricultural displays and exhibitions, local handicrafts, folk dancing and beauty contests.

.gifIn addition to lynchee sales, there are displays of other agricultural products, local handicrafts and, wait for it, a Miss Lynchee beauty contest. Spicing up the festivities will be the legendary lynchee wine on offer - it packs a punch.

.gifOriginally, the lynchee came from the southern Chinese provinces of Fukien and Kwangtung. Legend has it that when courtiers first stumbled upon the succulent fruit they thought it was so delicious that they immediately rushed to let Emperor Han know of their discovery.
